Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Shivam Dube might be having a personal problem with his former and first IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru. And that’s because whenever he plays against them, Dube brings out his best performance, something he did against them on the opening night of the Indian Premier League 2024 edition. CSK had come out on top against RCB by 6 wickets at the iconic MA Chidambaram stadium last Friday.
In that match, Shivam Dube had come in as the Impact player for CSK, replacing the eventual Man of the Match Mustafizur Rahman in the 2nd innings for their chase of 174. He arrived to bat at number 5, played out a 28-ball 34-run knock, and was there in the crease along with Ravindra Jadeja until the winning runs were scored. After the match, he took some time out to speak to Jio Cinema’s Hindi commentary panelists – Aakash Chopra, Suresh Raina, and Zaheer Khan.
Therein, Aakash Chopra asked Shivam Dube to shed light on RCB’s strategy of not allowing spin bowlers to bowl against him and constantly backing pacers to do the job. Chopra also told Dube about the RCB bowlers bowling short-pitched deliveries again and again and the left-hand batter’s reply to that was just so savage.
Shivam Dube considered his knock against RCB as a “practice ground”
Shivam Dube, who hails from Mumbai, has a typical way of speaking like many other Mumbaikars – direct, concise, and fearless, much like the way Indian captain Rohit Sharma does. To Aakash Chopra’s ask about RCB’s reluctance to introduce spinners against him, Dube claimed that he has no issues because he thrashed the pacers as well.
Then to Chopra’s following question about RCB pacers relying on short balls, Shivam Dube replied that he doesn’t have any issue with that either as it helped him practice bouncers.
“They didn’t bowl spinners when you were batting” – Chopra asked. “No worries, I made it even with fast bowlers.” – Dube replied. “They seemed like too committed to short balls, weren’t stopping” – Chopra further asked. “Yeah that’s okay, I got good practice.” – Dube concluded.

That particular video is now going viral all over social media with everyone loving the way Dube spoke his heart out and kept it blatantly honest without any filters. If he continues to perform the way he did against RCB and possibly gets more ball to face then Dube could be taking the flight to USA and West Indies for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup later this June.
CSK set to welcome Gujarat Titans at home tomorrow
Meanwhile, the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Chennai Super Kings will be welcoming Shubman Gill’s Gujarat Titans tomorrow at the MA Chidambaram stadium in what is going to be the replay of last year’s finale. In terms of their head-to-head records, Gujarat have an upper hand in their only 5 meetings since the 2022 season.
GT had won both of their meetings with CSK in 2022, first by 3 wickets and then by 7 wickets. Last year, Gujarat had completed the hat-trick of wins in the league stages before CSK claimed victories in the first Qualifier and then in the IPL final.
