Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Shreyas Iyer is having a decent time in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 as a captain of the team. Under his leadership, the two-time champions have looked extremely threatening as they have got all the bases covered.
Even though it's still early days in the IPL 2024, Kolkata Knight Riders are looking like hot favorites to win the tournament. They started the tournament on a high note as they won three out of their three games with big margins before tasting their first loss in the league on Monday (8th April).
Kolkata Knight Riders suffered a disappointing 7-wicket loss against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. They didn't look in great touch with the bat and also couldn't chip in with wickets, which saw them getting down after having a terrific first three games.
KKR were asked to bat first and they could manage just 137 runs on the board. Shreyas Iyer was the top run scorer with the bat with 34 runs. The rest of the batters couldn't get going at all as they struggled to tackle the Chennai Super Kings spinner and perished early.
However, even after that loss, Kolkata Knight Riders retained the second spot on the points table. Skipper Shreyas Iyer after the loss admitted that they weren't up to the mark as they failed to assess the conditions and they will have to go back to the drawing board and come back stronger. He stated:
"The wicket changed after the powerplay. We were in a comfortable place and we thought 160-170 was a good score, but we lost momentum. We have to go back to the drawing board and got to learn from that. I am glad this happened at the start of the tournament. When we go back, we know our home conditions pretty well. We need to analyse the situations and need to make the best use of it."
Watch: Shreyas Iyer replicates bowling action of Sunil Narine
Ahead of the game against Chennai Super Kings, Shreyas Iyer stole the limelight. The Kolkata Knight Riders skipper was seen imitating the bowling action of Sunil Narine. The right-hander copied the bowling action of Caribbean action to perfection. The video of the incident went viral on the internet, here's the clip:

Shreyas Iyer although is having a decent outing as the captain but he would eager to make an impact with the bat. The Kolkata Knight Riders skipper hasn't been able to set the stage on fire with the bat so far as he is yet to register a half-century. With him being the highlighted name in Indian cricket due to his contract termination, the IPL 2024 will be extremely important for him.
Kolkata Knight Riders will be next seen in action when they take on Lucknow Super Giants in their home game on Sunday (14th April).
