Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter MS Dhoni has shown glimpses of his old self in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The keeper-batter has been putting in a lot of hard yards in the nets and is giving his fans everything to cheer about.
MS Dhoni came to bat for the first time in IPL 2024 in a game against Delhi Capitals. The keeper-batter made sure that he entertained his fans as he played a brutal innings. Although it came in a losing cause, it was a magnificent hitting from the former Chennai Super Kings captain.
MS Dhoni took Anrich Nortje to the cleaners and smashed him for 20 runs in the over. The keeper-batter ended with an innings of 37 runs in just 16 balls and made everyone go gaga. He got an opportunity to bat in the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad but he didn't get a good number of balls to face as he managed just 1.
The upcoming game between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders will be another opportunity for MS Dhoni to bat but it remains to be seen if he will be promoted up the order or not. But the keeper-batter is making sure that he gives his everything in the nets ahead of the game in Chennai.
MS Dhoni was seen practising range-hitting ahead of the game against Kolkata Knight Riders at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Monday (8th April). The keeper-batter was seen hitting big sixes both against the pace as well as the spin. The keeper-batter was good in magnificent touch and didn't put a foot wrong in his training session.
Former Chennai Super Kings player Suresh Raina, who is part of the commentary panel in the IPL 2024, also attended the session. He was seen keenly observing MS Dhoni. The duo even had a chat before the keeper-batter took part in a hitting session at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Suresh Raina was in awe of MS Dhoni's big-hitting session from his former captain. Even skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was present there, also looked impressed as he saw the balls flying into the stands. This could be well an indication of what's about to come in the CSK vs KKR game.

Sending him at No. 3 or No. 4 may not be such a great idea - Sanjay Manjrekar on MS Dhoni
Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar recently discussed about the batting position of MS Dhoni in the IPL. He believes that keeper-batter batting up the order won't be ideal as he is better when he gets fewer balls to make an impact. Speaking on Star Sports, he stated:
"Which means he will have to come ahead of somebody like Daryl Mitchell, Ravindra Jadeja or Shivam Dube. Is that the right call? I Wonder. Maybe not. I want him to replicate what he did last season. Few balls and maximum impact.
"And even in that match, when he got 30-odd, he got it in 16-17 balls. MS Dhoni’s strengths likes in his wicketkeeping, being a guide to Ruturaj and his cameos. Sending him at No. 3 or No. 4 may not be such a great idea."
It remains to be seen whether MS Dhoni will get to bat higher in the order against KKR or not. Chennai Super Kings would be keen to make a comeback, having lost two back to back games.
