Former Australian pacer Brett Lee praised Rohit Sharma for his exceptional century during the IPL 2024 match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Brett Lee highlighted Rohit Sharma's decision not to celebrate the century as the Mumbai Indians (M) failed to secure victory against their archrivals.

The Mumbai-based team lost to the Super Kings by 20 runs at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 14. Rohit Sharma scored his first century of the Indian Premier League 2024 season. However, Rohit's efforts couldn't secure victory for the Hardik Pandya-led team in their chase of 207 runs.

The 36-year-old, who opened the innings, anchored his team's batting lineup until the end. The right-handed batter scored an unbeaten 105 runs off 63 balls, including 11 fours and five sixes, at a strike rate of 166.67. The home team managed to score 186 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs.

Rohit Sharma Scored A Brilliant Hundred - Brett Lee

Rohit Sharma reached his century in 61 balls in the final over of the match, when the game slipped away from their grasp. Speaking on Jio Cinema, Brett Lee praised Sharma's selfless act of not celebrating his milestone, emphasizing the team's victory over personal achievement.

"Rohit Sharma scored a brilliant hundred. The fact that he went out there, scored at a good clip too. I liked it when he scored his hundred, he didn't even raise his bat. For me, it shows that the win means more than his personal milestone. You know, he played with real intent right from ball one."

"He played shots all around the ground, but then the power and the finesse came into play. 105 not out of 63 balls with 11 fours and 5 sixes, just unfortunately, you can't do everything on your own," Brett Lee said on Jio Cinema.

Apart from Sharma, no other batter made significant impacts during the chase as the team faltered in the final seven overs of the match. Wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan, who scored 23 runs off 15 balls, and Tilak Varma, who amassed 31 runs off 20 balls, supported Rohit.

CSK's effective use of slower balls during the final overs hindered MI's progress, leading to wickets and limited boundaries. The defeat prevented MI from advancing to the top half of the table, leaving them in eighth place with two wins and four losses out of six games.

Mumbai Indians to Play Next Fixtures in Challenging Conditions

Hardik Pandya's team seemed to find their rhythm with back-to-back home wins after an initial streak of losses in the ongoing season. However, their recent defeat to Ruturaj Gaikwad's Chennai team highlighted lingering issues in both the batting and bowling departments for Mumbai.

The five-time IPL champions face a daunting task ahead after achieving a mixed record in their recent consecutive home matches. Their upcoming fixtures include challenging away games against the Punjab Kings (PBKS), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Delhi Capitals (DC), and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
