West Indies have fared quite well in the ongoing three-match ODI series against Ireland. They beat Ireland by 24 runs in the first ODI and might have won the second one-day international as well had rain not interrupted the play in the second innings.
As it stands, the series is currently leveled at 1-1. West Indies would be keen to win the last game and thereby seal the series by a 2-1 margin. Here’s a look at our predicted playing XI of the West Indies Cricket Team against Ireland.
WI vs IRE: West Indies’ Predicted Playing XI vs Ireland, West Indies vs Ireland 2022, 3rd ODI
Openers: Shai Hope and Justin Greaves
Both the batsmen haven’t been able to live up to the expectations. They are yet to give the team a decent start with the bat. Shai Hope got out after scoring 17 off 37 balls in the last match, while Justin Greeves made 10 off 30 balls, including one four.
Middle-Order: Nicholas Pooran, Shamarh Brooks, Roston Chase
Nicholas Pooran’s poor form with the bat continues in the ongoing series as well. In the two matches he batted, he has made scores of 13 and 1. There is no denying that he has a lot of talent in terms of his batting abilities, however, the team would be hoping for a bit more consistency from him. Roston Chase, too, has had a below-par showing thus far, managing scores of 1 and 13. However, his all-round potential will help him to continue to be part of the playing XI.
All-rounders: Kieron Pollard, Jason Holder, Romario Shepherd, Odean Smith
Pollard played a vital knock in the first ODI, while Odean Smith and Romario Shepherd exhibited their batting prowess in the second one-day international. All three are amongst the runs which should keep the team in good stead. Jason Holder’s form, however, is a concern. The former skipper hasn’t really stepped up with the bat or ball. The team would expect him to pick early wickets and create pressure on the opposition.
Bowlers: Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph
Ajarri Joseph will lead the pace attack of the team. He troubled the opposition with pace and bounce in the first game and picked up 3 wickets as well. He, however, couldn’t replicate a similar performance in the next game, conceding 32 runs in 6 overs without a wicket to his name. Besides, Akeal Hosein should complete the playing XI. In 2 matches, he has managed to pick 3 wickets at an average of 26.67.
