Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir wants India to play Avesh Khan in IND vs NZ 3rd T20I match. The cricket commentator Gautam Gambhir has opined that the Indian team can rest Bhuvneshwar Kumar in IND vs NZ 3rd T20I and induct Avesh Khan in the playing XI. India and New Zealand are set to lock horns in the 3rd game of the ongoing T20I series on November 21 at Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata.
The Indian squad, led by Rohit Sharma, has many youngsters in the club. While some key players like Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja have been rested for the series, youngsters like Avesh Khan, Harshal Patel, Ishan Kishan, Deepak Chahar, Ruturaja Gaikwad, among others, are part of the Indian contingent.
India Can Actually Rest Bhuvneshwar Kumar And Look At Avesh Khan, Feels Gautam Gambhir
While speaking to Star Sports, former India opener Gautam Gambhir said that since India have already won the series 2-0, they can experiment with the playing XI and give a chance to Avesh Khan in the next game. Gambhir also feels that the Eden Gardens’ wicket will suit his bowling.
“From a bowling point of view, they can actually rest Bhuvneshwar Kumar and look at Avesh Khan. It will suit him especially the wicket in Kolkata, it’s got pace and bounce. So I would definitely want to see Avesh playing that game.
“He has got pace and you got to test him on the international stage when you got the series in your bag. So that is one change they can look towards. You still have to be ruthless and try to wrap up the series 3-0. But no point putting pressure on yourself,” Gautam Gambhir said.
In the previous IND vs NZ 2nd T20I game, Harshal Patel made his international debut. By winning the man of the match award with his 2-wicket haul, Patel bagged the limelight of all in his debut international game itself.
Now, Avesh Khan is another pacer in the squad who awaits his international debut. The right-arm pacer had an incredible season in IPL 2021 while playing for Delhi Capitals.
Meanwhile, India defeated New Zealand in the first T20I by 5 wickets. Later, Rohit Sharma and company also outplayed the Tim Southee-led Kiwi side in the 2nd T20I by 7 wickets. Now, they aim to clean sweep the series in the 3rd and final T20I game. Post the T20I series, both the teams will lock horns in two Test matches.
