Senior Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin expressed his gratitude for being selected to play in the recently concluded T20I series against New Zealand.

India swept the Black Caps 3-0 in the T20I series at home, with Ashwin featuring in the first two matches. The Tamil Nadu spinner was selected in India’s T20 World Cup squad after a gap of five years.

He was benched for a couple of games against Pakistan and New Zealand in the showpiece event but was played in India’s final three games, where he accounted for a total of six wickets.

Will try and win your support in the future: Ravichandran Ashwin

Ashwin played a crucial role for India in the middle overs. He got back to back wickets of Mark Chapman and Glenn Phillips in the first T20I after the visitors got a great start to their innings.

Ashwin posted a picture with the T20I series Trophy and thanked each of his supporters for backing him, and promised to perform consistently.

Not the one for a customary post series picture, but this one means a lot to me. I would like to thank all of you that have supported me, and for those who haven’t, I will try and win your support in the future,” Ashwin wrote in his caption for his Instagram post.

Ravichandran Ashwin is always an attacking option: Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma, India’s T20I skipper for the New Zealand T20Is, praised the senior bowler. Rohit feels Ashwin is a great attacking option.

It’s been a great comeback for him. Ever since he played in Dubai (at the T20 World Cup) and till now… He is a quality bowler. We all know that. And now the way he has come back and bowled in Dubai and the two games here, it shows the quality that he has,” Rohit said in the post-match press conference after the third T20I.

He is always an attacking option for his captain. When you have someone like him in the squad, it always gives you the opportunity to take wickets in the middle, and we understand how important that middle phase is.

“That’s where you need to put the brakes on run-rate and try to keep taking wickets. Ashwin provides that in the middle, along with Axar (Patel),” he added.

After winning the T20I series, India will look forward to the two-match Test series against the Black Caps.
