IND vs NZ 2021: Twitter Slams Ajinkya Rahane As The Batter Continues His Flop Show With The Bat

Pressure continues to pile up on senior India batter Ajinkya Rahane as he registered scores of 35 and 4 in the Kanpur Test versus New Zealand.
Ajinkya Rahane, who captained the side in Kanpur, may miss out from the second Test in Mumbai when regular skipper Virat Kohli returns after Shreyas Iyer’s maiden Test century on debut. Although, that seems unlikely considering India go to South Africa next month and Ajinkya Rahane will carry his reputation as the overseas specialist.
However, what he won’t carry is the form on his side. Since the start of 2020, Ajinkya Rahane averages 24.39 with the bat; in 16 Tests, he has notched up only one century – the historic ton at MCG – and 2 fifties. Also, the right-hander averages 32.73 in 50 Tests since the Indore Test against NZ in 2016 where he made a career-best of 188.

Ajinkya Rahane’s wicket on Day 4 in India second innings – trapped lbw in front by spinner Ajaz Patel – left India at 41/3, with the lead extending till 90, has put the side in a spot of bother from where the Kiwis still remain alive in the game.
Another senior batsman in Cheteshwar Pujara is under scanner as he recorded figures of 26 and 22. He has been having troubles in the channel outside off-stump, exposed on the England tour and by Tim Southee in the first innings at Kanpur.
Pujara averages 27.65 since the start of last year with his last Test century coming in January 2019. It would be interesting to see how the management deals with the two out of form batters heading into the second Test in Mumbai and the South Africa tour.

As for now, Twitter went ballistic over Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara for their disappointing returns for a while.
IND vs NZ 2021: Twitter Slams Ajinkya Rahane As The Batter Continues His Flop Show With The Bat:
In a match without Kohli, Rohit and Pant (maybe Rahul too), you would have wanted two seniors – Rahane and Pujara – to put on some big runs. But they have failed to do so. Huge let down.

If India still drop Shreyas for Kohli, and keep Rahane, we deserve what he's been giving to the side with the bat. Not that I am very confident about Shreyas overseas, but somewhere you have to start the process of finding a new number 5.

Forget Rahane's runs, see what team demands. It demands a new vice captain in Test.

If Rahane is a team man, he would make way for Iyer now, even if the team doesn't want to drop him. Walk the talk.
