New Zealand Cricket Team had a forgettable ODI Series against India. Finn Allen, the destructive opener looked in all sorts of trouble as the right-handed batter scored 40 runs in 3 matches out of which 2 times, he couldn’t open his account which hurt the team a lot.

The hosts would be booming with confidence as they were quite clinical in all the 3 departments of the game. The biggest positive for India was the rise of the dashing batter Shubman Gill who smashed 2 centuries which included 1 double ton and scored 360 runs.

Craig Cumming on Finn Allen

Craig Cumming was having an interaction with SENZ Morning and was asked about Finn Allen. “I am concerned about the style of cricketers we are trying to produce. I want to produce Devon Conways, I want to produce Kane Williamsons; the guys they have got the craft and can bat and they have got more than one skill?” said Craig Cumming.

“Finn Allen at the moment, he’s young, he’s learning, but he’s in a really important position for us at the top of the order and he seems to be at the moment in a one pace, one line hitter. At the moment, it’s failing and maybe Finn”s getting the experience, I mean they have got to stick with him, but he’s not producing enough at the moment,” he stated.

“You look at Rohit Sharma and the way they play, yes they are powerful but they also have the skill in the way they go about executing their plans. I just worry at the moment that Finn’s sort of been thrown into that mix where it’s one pace, batter up, it’s a baseball-style mentality,” he added.

Concerns for New Zealand

As mentioned by Craig Cumming, New Zealand must stick to Finn Allen. It looks unlikely that New Zealand would go back and recall Martin Guptill as the batter doesn’t have promising numbers behind him. The batters must score at least 160 odd runs against India in the upcoming T20I Series to give them a chance.

India on the other end would be hoping that the team continues it’s winning run. It would be interesting to see how Hardik Pandya fares as in the Sri Lanka T20I Series, he was quite a spot on with his tactics and field placings but New Zealand would be a completely different ball game as they have got a lot of pinch hitters present in the team.
