Aakash Chopra believes that if India gets to bat first against New Zealand in the third one-day international on Tuesday, January 24, they may surpass the 400-run threshold.

Despite only Shubman Gill surpassing the 35-run threshold in the first game of the three-match series, the Men in Blue amassed a staggering 349/8. After bowling out Tom Latham and company for just 108 in the second game, they decisively won by eight wickets to win the series.

Chopra predicted that India might score a huge total if they get to set a target in a video previewing the last ODI, saying: “What can we anticipate from this match? The Indian team has already surpassed expectations. I wouldn’t be surprised if India scores 400 if they got to bat first. T20s here average 200-225 runs.”

Aakash Chopra believes that the batsmen of the visitors would seek to benefit from the fortunate circumstances, explaining:

“The opposition is a weak team, the field is very small, and the turf is very flat. All hitters agree that they should enhance their records when such a chance arises because an international match is an international match.”

There have already been five ODIs played at the Indore Holkar Stadium. India has won each of the five games, including three victories while batting first.

“India’s only worry is their failure to dismiss lower-order batsmen”: Aakash Chopra

Chopra clarified that India’s inability to get rid of lower-order batters is their only issue:

“There is not much cause for concern. After the first game, we had a good idea of how we would get rid of the lower middle order. Before that, Dasun Shanaka had scored a century, and Michael Bracewell followed suit. Therefore, if we have a flaw, it is that we are unable to remove the tail”

Aakash Chopra finished by emphasizing that New Zealand are not a particularly awful team despite their performance. Having Kane Williamson and Tim Southee present would have likely improved the visitors’ ability to compete, and he expressed his hope that the final ODI will feature a more competitive game.
