Indian Cricket Team won a hard-fought 1st ODI against New Zealand in the 1st ODI. The Men in Blue won the match by 12 runs where Shubman Gill’s double ton proved to be decisive. Suryakumar Yadav scored 31 runs in 26 balls where he struck 4 fours. He came into the team because KL Rahul is unavailable for personal reasons.
New Zealand would rue the fact that they weren’t able to get a decent start during the power-play overs. The management should use Daryl Mitchell as a finisher rather than making him bat at No,4 positions where he looked in all sorts of trouble.
Kapil Dev on Selectors & Suryakumar Yadav
Kapil Dev was having an interaction with Gulf News and was quite furious on selection panel. “I think we should leave it to the cricket board what they (selectors) plan. There are so many cricketers coming so everyone should get a chance to play. From what I can see from the outside is that they will have three teams – one each for T20Is, ODIs and Tests. That way, you can have a bigger pool.” said Kapil Dev.
“Having said that, they should have one set of teams for a period of time. You can change an odd person I can understand that. But if you Man of the Match (Suryakumar Yadav) is getting dropped the next day and somebody else comes in, we as cricketers don’t understand that.” he added.
Concerns for India
Even if India managed to post a formidable total of 350 runs, apart from Shubman Gill not a single batter notched up a half century. The skipper Rohit Sharma would be utterly disappointed as he is not able to convert his starts which now has started to hurt the team.
The management may think of bringing back Umran Malik back into the playing 11 as he not only has got sheer pace but bowls impeccable line & length. Rohit Sharma had said that Shardul provides the batting depth for the team. The Men in Blue would be well aware of the fact that New Zealand would be ready for all sorts of challenges.
