New Zealand Cricket Team suffered a massive defeat in the 3rd ODI against India. The Black Caps lost the match by 90 runs and lost the Series by a 3-0 margin. Skipper Tom Latham would be utterly disappointed with his performance as he was dismissed on the very first ball & managed to score only 25 runs in the series.

India would be booming with confidence as at one stage it looked like New Zealand could chase down the target. Skipper Rohit Sharma rotated his bowlers smartly and the inclusion of Shardul Thakur in the middle overs phase proved to be the turning point of the match as he took 3 wickets of Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham & Glenn Phillips.

Shardul Thakur on Tom Latham

BCCI posted a video on its social media handle where Shardul Thakur was asked how the team got rid of Tom Latham.

“Every time Rohit walked into, the message was simple to let them hit the cross batted shots and score runs. The pitch is flat and the ground is short. At a time it will hit you a good shot , but it is ok. It’s bound to happen in Cricket and you will get wickets as well , So let’s stick to the plan and let them hit cross-batted shots,” said Shardul Thakur.

Shardul Thakur reveals Tom Latham’s dismissal

“To be honest, Tom Latham’s wicket came as a surprise, we expected that something like that would happen. Virat walked up to me and said slower one daalte hain kya and Hardik said are you confident and I said I can bowl it. Hardik said Bindaas daal de and Rohit asked what are you planning to do.

“I said I am trying to bowl a slower one and surprise him because he might expect a short one up and Rohit said let’s go for it. We 4 of us were on the same page and we went for the slower one and we got the wicket of Tom Latham,” he added.

Concerns for New Zealand

The Black Caps perhaps need to bring back Martin Guptill back into the ODI Setup as Finn Allen hasn’t looked that destructive at the top of the order. It won’t be wrong to say that the absence of Kane Williamson hurt the team a lot as he is someone who could have provided stability in the middle overs phase.

New Zealand should use Michael Bracewell as a floater as we all witnessed in the 1st ODI how he almost pulled off a heist. The all-rounder in a short span of time has become the inseparable part of the team. The management would rethink of playing Daryl Mitchell as the batter looked a bit scratchy.
