IND vs NZ: Suryakumar Yadav Credits MS Dhoni Indirectly For "Calm Attitude" On Difficult Pitches

The great India batter Suryakumar Yadav gave a surprising MS Dhoni recalls in his response when a reporter asked him how he was able to maintain his calm and finish the game in Lucknow.

Suryakumar surprisingly restrained an unbeaten 26 not out of 31 balls, the best score by a hitter in that match, by neutralizing the spinners. And a large part of that defeat was attributable to his cool-headed pursuit of the ball while the New Zealand spinner choked the runs.

India set out to chase, and a chase of 100 never seemed difficult. However, the spinners from New Zealand made it very difficult for the batsman to score runs. India scored just 34 runs during the powerplay while losing one wicket, and 15 more runs at the midway point of the innings while losing another man.

After thereafter, India lost two more wickets for a total of 20 runs in the space of four overs, but Suryakumar persisted in fighting bravely against the Kiwi assault. He only managed one boundary, but he and captain Hardik Pandya collaborated on an important and game-winning 31-run stand.

When a reporter questioned Suryakumar about his “calm attitude” on difficult grounds, he gave indirect thanks to former India captain MS Dhoni before going into depth about how domestic cricket and the team’s veteran players also helped him master the skill.

“The T20 series started in Ranchi, so maybe that calm attitude came from there. But I think the amount of domestic cricket I played before making my international debut helped me a lot. Because of the grind that we had there, we play on difficult tracks and you have to dedicate yourself, so whatever I learned there, I have brought with me here,” Suryakumar Yadav said.

“The rest of what I’ve learnt has come from watching veteran players and talking to them about how they handle various challenging situations “Suryakumar Yadav stated.

The series finale against New Zealand will be played on Wednesday in Ahmedabad.
