Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav has been included in the Test squad for the first two matches of the upcoming four-match series against Australia for the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2023. Suryakumar is expected to make his debut if Shreyas Iyer is not able to recover in time for the first test from his back injury.

Middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav could fill the vacant No. 5 spot in the batting unit in the first Test against Australia in Nagpur on February 9. Shreyas missed the recently concluded ODI series against New Zealand and was asked to report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for the rehabilitation.

“Obviously, everyone wants to play Test cricket. You start your cricket at domestic level, playing with red ball only, and I played for Mumbai. We all know how exciting the series would be, but at the same time, it’s about staying in the present and the focus is on how to give your best for tomorrow’s game, then we have full time to think about Tests,” Suryakumar said.
