Indian Cricket Team would be riding high on confidence after thrashing the mighty Black Caps in the 2nd ODI. The rising right-handed batter Shubman Gill is in the form of his life. The batter smashed a terrific double century in the 1st ODI and was spot-on with his shot selections.

Shubman Gill has now given happy headaches to the selection committee where it would be interesting to see whether the management goes back to Ishan Kishan at the top of the order. The Men in Blue would be eyeing to white-wash New Zealand after a dominating performance.

R Sridhar On Shubman Gill

Former Fielding Coach of India R Sridhar in his autobiography ‘COACHING BEYOND: My Days with the Indian Cricket Team’ made some interesting comments on Shubman Gill.

“In Ahmedabad, during the last Test against England in March 2021, things came to a boil with Shubman. I contemplated having a word with Ravi about it but held my horses and took him out for lunch instead,” said R Sridhar.

“I told him, ‘You are considered the next big thing. People are looking at you from a leadership perspective. As a future leader, the one thing you should bring is inspiration. You should have a presence on the field and when you do something you must do it with intent. It is not just doing it for the sake of the team. Do it for yourself. Do it for your satisfaction, not because the captain wants you there. What you do there should be an inspiration for the whole team,” he added.

Concerns for New Zealand

The Black Caps must find a way to tackle the seamers in the power-play over as we witnessed that the fast bowlers are bowling quite a wicket to wicket. Skipper Tom Latham should bat responsibly as he is the most experienced batter in the side.

There are chances that the Men in Blue rest one of Shami & Siraj in order to manage their work-load ahead of the Australia Tests. Virat Kohli would be keen to get some runs as the batter in both the ODIs was foxed by the left-arm off-spinner Mitchell Santner.
