India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma was part of an absolutely hilarious moment ahead of the commencement of the play during the second ODI between India and New Zealand. The 35-year-old suffered an epic brain fade moment when he won the toss and forgot whether to bat or ball first.

India defeated New Zealand by 12 runs in the thrilling first ODI at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad on Wednesday, January 18, to take a 1-0 lead in the series. The second ODI between the Men In Blue and the Black Caps is currently underway at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur on Saturday, January 21.

When India captain Rohit Sharma and New Zealand captain Tom Latham came out for the toss a strange but funny incident happened. Rohit flipped the coin and the Kiwi skipper called for ‘heads’, the coin came down as ‘tails’ and India won the toss.

However, the India captain wasn’t ready for his decision and he was simply standing while scratching his head in embarrassment. The turn of events triggered laughter among the dignitaries present at the toss, including Tom Latham and match referee Javagal Srinath. Also, Yuzvendra Chahal and Mohammed Siraj, who were watching from behind, couldn’t stop laughing.

After taking a long pause, Rohit finally said that “we will bowl first”. Meanwhile, a video has been circulating on social media where Rahul Dravid and the Indian coaching staff were seen laughing while watching Rohit Sharma’s fumble at the toss.

Speaking at the toss, Rohit said that he forgot the toss decision because of a lot of discussions in the dressing room about it. He elaborated:

“I forgot what we wanted to do, had plenty of discussions with the team about the toss decision, just wanted to challenge ourselves under difficult conditions, but we’ll bowl first. Was a good test for us, knowing that the wicket will get better to bat on and that was the challenge in front of us. 

’Bracewell batted well, but we bowled well in the end and won the game. There was a bit of dew during the practice sessions, but we’ve heard from the curator that it will not play a role on game days. We batted first in Hyderabad, we wanted to bowl first here, same team.”
