New Zealand National Cricket Team have been dethroned from the top spot in the ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings following the defeat against India National Cricket Team in the second ODI of the three-match series at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur on Saturday, January 21.

The Rohit Sharma-led side won the toss and invited the Black Caps to bat first in the match. The Kiwi top-order failed miserably as they were reduced to 15/5, with premier batters – Finn Allen, Devon Conway, Henry Nicholls, Daryl Mitchell and Tom Latham – being sent back to the dugout.

The surface was not bowling-friendly and it wasn’t unplayable by any means, but the batters played some loose shots and were eventually bundled out for 108. Only Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell and Mitchell Santner got the starts, but none of them managed to register a big score.

Chasing the target, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill batted brilliantly and they ensured India have no hiccups in the run-chase. Rohit scored brilliant 51 runs and Gill scored good 40* runs. India chased down the target in the 21st over and won the match by 8 wickets with 179 balls remaining.

Before the commencement of the second ODI between the Men In Blue and the Black Caps, New Zealand were at the top spot with 115 rating points. Following them in the rankings were England (113 rating points), Australia (112 rating points) and India (111 rating points).

Now, New Zealand have dropped down to the No.2 position in the ODI rankings and England have taken the No.1 position. Talking about points of the top four teams after the Raipur ODI, England have 113 rating points and 3400 overall points, New Zealand have 113 rating points and 3166 overall points.

India are at the No.3 place with 113 rating points and 4847 overall points while Australia are at the No.4 position with 112 rating points and 3572 overall points.

With the win in the second ODI, the Rohit Sharma-led side have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. The third and final ODI will be held at the Nehru Stadium in Indore on Tuesday, January 24. If India manage to replicate their performances from the first two matches in the dead rubber ODI and whitewash the visitors, they will claim the top spot in the ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings.
