Shakib Al Hasan Makes A Comeback As Bangladesh Name Squad For First Test vs Pakistan

Star Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has made a comeback in the Bangladesh side as he has been named in the first Test squad of the two-match Test series against Pakistan.

Shakib Al Hasan suffered a serious hamstring injury during his stint in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 and was ruled out of the tournament after performing very well across all the games Bangladesh played in the marquee event.

Meanwhile, Pakistan won the T20I series against Bangladesh in a dominating manner by 3-0 and the Test series between the teams is all set to begin from Friday in Chattogram.

Shakib Al Hasan’s Fitness To Be Assessed Ahead Of The Test Series

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief selector Minhajul Abedin said that Shakib Al Hasan’s fitness will be assessed before the first Test game. He also added that they have added consistent performers in the Test team and their presence can “make a difference.”

“We will obviously have to wait and see if Shakib makes it for the first test but the players who are in the squad have been the most consistent performers for us in tests and their presence can make a difference,” chief selector Minhajul Abedin said on Monday.

Opener Tamim Iqbal has also opted out of the series due to an injury and Bangladesh have added uncapped duo Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Rejaur Rahman Raja to the squad. Mahmudul performed really well in the National Cricket League smashing two centuries and Rejaur Rahman Raja picked 33 wickets in 10 first-class games.

“It is still early days for him but Mahmudul has shown good temperament for the longer version,” Abedin said.

“He is also an in-form batsman. With injury concerns to Taskin (Ahmed) and Shoriful (Islam), we needed to keep our pace bowling options open and Raja got the nod. We have been monitoring his performances in first-class competitions. He is strong and energetic and has a knack for taking wickets.”
