Amazing Captain and Awesome Opener! These words truly list the legacy of Alastair Cook in England Cricket. He is definitely among the best Test players and an awesome opener to ever play for the side.
Alastair Cook is a former England Test captain and cricketer representing the national side from 2006 to 2018. He was a left-handed batter who used to play as an opener. He retired as one of the greatest openers of all time. He is an active commentator now.
Family and Personal Life
Alastair Cook was born on December 25, 1984, to Graham and Stephanie Cook in England. He grew up in England with his two brothers Laurance Cook and Adrian Cook. He tied the knot with Alice Hunt and has two daughters.
Early and Domestic Career
Alastair Cook was interested in farming and cooking during his childhood and these were his two favorite hobbies. The left-handed batter got the initial cricket training under coaches Derek Randall and Graham Gooch. Bedfordshire domestic club picked him in 2002 but he later joined Essex in 2003 and played for the side till 2023.
International Career
Alastair Cook made his international debut for England in March 2006 against India and went on to play for the side till his last game in 2018- again against the Indian Team. He went on to represent England in 161 Tests and 92 ODIs and finished with most runs for England in the red-ball format.
Cook, who was also awarded the Sir title by the British Queen, went on to smack 12472 runs in 291 Test innings at 45+ average. In ODIs, he mustered 3204 runs at 36+ average. He also smacked 33 ODIs and 5 tons for the side.
Cook also featured in 4 T20I games for the national side where he slammed 61 runs with a top knock of 26. However, since he was more of a longer format player, he only focussed on ODIs and Tests.
Franchise Career
Since Alastair Cook was not a T20I expert, he never took part in any franchise leagues during his cricket career. Notably, there were many franchise leagues active during Cook's tenure, however, he kept his whole focus on playing Tests and ODIs for England.
