Dale Steyn is a former right-arm pacer who played for South Africa till 2021. He was a full-time pacer and among the most dangerous ones to ever play in international cricket. He broke many records during his active career.
Family and Personal Life
Dale Steyn was born to father Schalk Steyn on June 27, 1983 in Phalaborwa City in South Africa. His mother's and siblings' names are unknown as Steyn has always kept his personal life a secret.
According to media reports, he is married to Jeanne Kietzmann but there is no confirmation whether the couple has tied the knot. However, the news of their relationship is confirmed. They don't have any kids.
Early and Domestic Career
Dale Steyn got a break into the domestic circuit in 2003 for Northern and Titans teams. He also played for teams like Essex and Warwickshire in the domestic circuit. He became a member of Cape Cobras in 2010. He got a break into the national team just one year after his domestic debut.
International Career
Steyn made his international debut in December 2004 with a Test match against England. He went on to play till 2020; facing Australia in his final T20I game. He announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in 2021.
During his career, the South Africa pacer played a total of 93 Tests, 125 ODIs, and 47 T20Is. He grabbed 439 wickets in just 171 Test innings at an average of 22.95. In ODIs, he clinched 196 wickets at 4.88 economy and 25+ average. In T20Is, he stole 64 scalps at 6.95 economy and 18+ average.
Franchise Career
Dale Steyn was quite active in franchise T20 leagues. He played for many teams in the Indian Premier League. The right-arm pacer was part of Royal Challengers Bangalore in his first three seasons from 2008 to 2010.
Later, he joined Deccan Chargers from 2011 to 2012. Sunrisers Hyderabad picked him for three seasons from 2013 to 2015. He played one season in Gujarat Titans in 2016. He rejoined RCB in the 2019 and 2020 seasons before bidding goodbye to cricket.
He also played in the Caribbean Premier League, Big Bash League, and Pakistan Super Kings representing teams like Jamaica Tallawahs, Melbourne Stars, and Quetta Gladiators.
