David Gower was born on 1 April 1957, at Tunbridge Wells in Kent, England. His father Richard Gower was a British Officer. He had no siblings and married Thorunn Gower later. The couple has two daughters- Alex and Sammi.
Early and Domestic Career
Gower commenced his domestic career with Leicestershire in 1975 and went on to play for the same team till 1989. Later, he played for Hampshire for some years till 1993. Just three years after his domestic debut, he made his international debut for England in 1978.
International Career
The former England skipper made his international debut for England with an ODI game against Pakistan in May 1978. Two months later, he also made his Test debut with the same team and became a crucial and consistent top-order batsman for the national side.
Till his retirement in 1992, he went on to play a total of 117 Tests and 114 ODIs for England. In 204 Test innings, he mustered 8231 runs at an average of 44+. He also smacked 18 centuries with 2 double tons in the red-ball format.
In ODIs, he went on to score 3170 runs in 111 innings at 30.78 average. He also hit 7 tons and 12 half-centuries with a top knock of 158. He also captained the England Team in the 1980s but was replaced due to poor results. He was part of the England Team in ICC ODI World Cup 1979, where they finished as runners-up.

David Gower has been a popular commentator since his retirement and worked with Sky Sports. He was also interested in conversation projects with his wife. He also wrote multiple books on cricket including his autobiography.
