James Anderson, the name is enough to attract all the fans of cricket. Undoubtedly James Anderson is the best-ever seamer to play cricket to date for England. The English pacer recently retired from international cricket after serving England cricket for more than 20 years.
James Anderson is a right-arm pacer and bats right-handed. With a rare left-right combination, he ruled the cricket like a Lion of the pace department. The Englishman is known for his consistent show even in his 40s. Notably, he has an impeccable record against India.
Early and Personal Life
James Anderson, nicknamed Jimmy by everyone, was born in Burnley, Lancashire in 1982 to parents Michael and Catherine Anderson. He was the only child of his parents. Later, he married model Daniella Lloyd and the couple has two daughters- Lola and Ruby.
Born in a Christian family, James Anderson did his schooling at St Mary in Lancashire and high school at St. Theodore's RC High School. During that time, he also started playing cricket under his childhood coach Mike Watkinson. Interestingly, Jimmy was interested in tennis at the start but developed a love for cricket later.
Domestic Career
James Anderson played for domestic teams like Auckland and Lancashire, however, his domestic career did not go long as he was picked just after his first 5 List A games. Later, he grabbed a 5-wicket haul on his debut and became a crucial name in the England national team.
International Career
The England stalwart made his international debut in December 2002 against Australia in an ODI match. The right-arm seamer picked 1 wicket in that game. Later, he claimed a 5-wicket haul on his Test debut against Zimbabwe in May 2003 and grabbed the limelight with on his entry into Test Cricket.
Anderson became a well-knock player and also featured in T20Is in 2007 against Australia. However, he pulled the curtains down on his T20I career after 19 games and did not play any T20Is after the clash against South Africa in 2009.
Franchise Career
The pace legend has shied away from franchise cricket as he was not interested in T20Is from the start. Also, he has stuck to the ODIs and Tests since the start of his career and made a marvelous contribution in both formats.
As he left T20Is after 2009 and the franchise cricket league culture became popular later, he never became active in the leagues. He also stayed away from playing too much domestic cricket and focused on national contracts.
Legacy
James Anderson was known among the best-ever pacers in his early days and finished as the pacer with the most number of wickets in international cricket. The right-arm pacer ended as the third-highest wicket-taker of all time after Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan.
With 704 wickets in Tests, 269 in ODIs, and 19 in T20Is, Anderson will always be known as among the top legends in England cricket in the bowling department. With his teammate Stuart Broad, Jimmy brought many accolades to the England team.
