Jovial and Controversial Cricketer! Many young cricket fans who didn't watch Javed Miandad play must have heard these words about him. However, in addition to this, he was also a match-winner for Pakistan. Notably, he slammed a six on the final ball in the 1986 Asia Cup Final against India to drive Pakistan to a memorable victory.
Javed Miandad was a right-handed batsman who played for Pakistan for more than two decades. Hence, he is one of the rarest international cricketers who was part of the national side for more than 20 years. He played over 100 Tests and 200 ODIs for Pakistan.
Family and Personal Life
Javed Miandad's family was of Indian origin as his parents moved to Pakistan from the Indian city of Gujarat. He was born in Karachi City Pakistan on June 12, 1957.
He grew up with three brothers Anwar, Bashir, Sohail, and Hamif, and sister Safia. He married Tahira Saigol in 1981.
Early and Domestic Career
Javed Miandad got a break into Pakistan's domestic team Habib Bank Limited in 1975 and represented the side till 1991. He also played for England County Club Sussex from 1976 to 1979 and Glamorgan for five years from 1980 to 1985.
International Career
Since Javed was a 90's guy, he played only Tests and ODIs for Pakistan. He made his debut in June 1975 with an ODI against West Indies in the ICC ODI World Cup.
He went on to play for Pakistan till 1996; when he played an ODI against India during ODI World Cup. Hence, his career started with an ICC event and ended with an ICC event.
During 21 years, Miandad played 124 Tests and 233 ODIs for Pakistan. He slammed 8832 runs in 189 Test innings at an average of 52+. He went on to score 7381 runs in 218 ODI innings averaging 41+. He also slammed 23 tons in Tests in 8 centuries in ODIs. With his ball, he picked up a total of 24 wickets.
