Critic, Cricketer, and Commentator! These words truly explain Michael Vaughan. He is a former England cricketer and captain who is a commentator now. Michael Vaughan has been a very vocal, witty, and popular commentator due to his funny and controversial tweets and comments.
Michael Vaughan is a former England all-rounder who played for the national side from 1999 to 2008. He played over 80 ODIs and Tests for England and was one of the powerful captains for England. He led England to the runners-up spot in the Champions Trophy in 2004.
Family and Personal Life
Michael Vaughan was born on October 1974 in Greater Manchester England to David Vaughan and Brandi Neal. He grew up with his brother David. He married Nicola Shannon in 2003 and has a son named Archie Vaughan.
Early and Domestic Career
Michael Vaughan got his break in the domestic side for Yorkshire in 1993 and continued to play for the team until his retirement in 2009. The right-handed batsman was associated with only two teams in his entire career- England and Yorkshire. The fashion of franchise cricket arrived after his retirement.
International Career
After breaking into the domestic side for Yorkshire in 2003, Vaughan took six years to make his international debut for England. He made his debut in a Test match against South Africa in 1999. He went on to play 82 Tests, 86 ODIs, and 2 T20Is till his retirement.
He slammed 5719 runs in Tests at 41+ average and also got 6 wickets. He mustered 1982 runs in ODIs with 16 wickets. He scored 27 and 0 in two T20I games. Hence, Vaughan was more of a middle-order batsman and not that successful as a bowler.
Post Retirement
Michael Vaughan could not enjoy the franchise T20I leagues but he continued his association with cricket by becoming a commentator. He is one of the most popular ones but is often criticized for his negative comments against opposition teams.
However, he also criticized the England team. It is not wrong to say that he is a critical commentator.
