Parthiv Patel is one of the Indian wicketkeepers who made his debut ahead of MS Dhoni but due to the latter's rise into the side as skipper, could not cement his place into the side. However, Parthiv Patel was one of the youngest players to debut for India.
Parthiv Patel retired from international cricket in December 2020.
Patel was a left-handed batsman who was a permanent wicketkeeper. He got a good start in his cricket career but could not play for a long time. He played a total of 65 games for India.
Family and Personal Life
Parthiv Patel was born on March 1985 in Ahmedabad City in Gujarat to Ajay Patel. He married Avni Zaveri and the couple has a daughter named Venika.
Early and Domestic Career
Parthiv Patel made his debut for the Gujarat team in the domestic circuit in 2004. He was the captain of the side in the later part of his career. Although he lost his wicketkeeper slot in the national team, he went on to represent Gujarat in the domestic circuit regularly. He played for the side till his retirement from all forms of cricket in 2020.
International Career
Parthiv Patel's international career was a short one but since he made his debut at a very young age, he was quite popular among cricket fans.
The wicket-keeper batsman made his international debut in August 2002 under skipper Sourav Ganguly and went on to play for the national side till 2011. However, he was always in and out of the team and could not cement his place in the side.
From 2000 to 2018, Parthiv Patel played 25 Test matches for India. He mustered 934 runs in 38 innings at an average of 31+. In 38 ODIs from 2003 to 2012, he scored 736 runs at an average of 23+. He played just 2 T20I games for India where he hit 36 runs. In all, he shattered 10 half-centuries for the side.
Franchise Career
Although Parthiv Patel did not have many opportunities in the national team, he was quite active in the Indian Premier League. The left-handed batsman played a total of 139 matches and mustered 2848 runs at an average of 22+. He was active in the league from 2008 to 2019.
Over the years, he played for teams like Chennai Super Kings, Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Deccan Charges, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Mumbai Indians.
