Treasure, Talented, and Terrific opener- these words truly describe Travis Head with his hard-hitting batting style. Travis Head is one of the greatest openers for Australia.
Travis Head is a left-handed batsman who plays as an opener in ODIs and T20Is. In Tests, he grabs the spot in the middle-order. He also bowls left-arm off-spin.
Travis Head became a worldwide name across India and Australia when he slammed a marvelous ton in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 final. With his century, he led Australia to their 6th ODI World Cup title, beating India on their home soil.
Early Life and Career
Travis Head was born on December 29, 1993, in Adelaide, South Australia to Simon and Ann Head. He grew up with his sister Chelsea Head and brother Ryan Head.
He started with early career in 2012 with South Australia- the domestic team of Australia- in Sheffield Shield. With a century and two 90-plus scores in his first three games, he gained a lot of limelight with his batting. In the same year, he also played Under-19 World Cup for Australia.
International Career
In January 2016, Travis Head made his international debut against India in a T20I series. In the same year, he also made his ODI debut against West Indies. Two years later, he made his Test debut against Pakistan. Currently, he is a member of the side across all three formats.
2023 was a fantastic year for the Australia opener. He shattered a ton (175) in the WTC final to drive the team to victory against India. Later in the ODI World Cup final, he scored the highest-ever knock by an Australia opener in the ODI WC (137) to drive Australia to the title.
IPL and BBL Career
Travis Head made his IPL debut in the 2016 season when Royal Challengers Bengaluru bought him for Rs. 50 lakh. After playing two seasons for RCB, he went back to focus on his international career.
Later, after his fabulous show against India in 2023, he was picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs. 6.40 crore. He continued with his hard-hitting batting style and also scored an IPL century.
With his high batting strike rate, he also helped Sunrisers Hyderabad to post the highest-ever team total in IPL history. In the Big Bash League, he has been part of Adelaide Strikers since his debut season in 2012.
