Very very special! These words truly define one of the best Test players for India VVS Laxman. He is a former Indian player who was a regular member of the Test and ODI teams under skippers Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid.
VVS Laxman is a former right-handed batsman who used to play in the middle order. He was a Test specialist batsman and was known for his match-winning knocks and partnerships with then-teammate Rahul Dravid.
Family and Personal Life
VVS Laxman was born on 1 November 1974 to V Shantaram and V Satyabhama in Hyderabad. He grew up with his brother VVS Ramakrishna in Hyderabad. He married G R Sailaja in February 2004 and the couple has two kids- daughter Achinthya and son Sarvajit.
Early and Domestic Career
Laxman made his debut in the domestic circuit for Hyderabad in 1992 and went on to play for the side till his retirement in 2013. He also played for domestic teams like Lancashire and Otago in foreign clubs.
International Career
Laxman made his international debut in a Test match against South Africa in November 1996. He went on to play till 2012 and played a total of 134 Tests and 86 ODIs for India. Since he was a Test specialist, he was not considered for the shortest format.
Laxman played 134 Tests for India and slammed 8781 runs at a batting average of 45.50. He also slammed 17 centuries and 56 half-centuries for India during his Test career. Out of these, there were 2 double tons.
In ODIs, Laxman mustered 2338 runs in 83 innings at a batting average of 30.76. He also shattered 6 tons and 10 half-centuries in the 50-over format.
Franchise Career
VVS Laxman was part of two teams during the first few years of the Indian Premier League.
In the debut edition, he was a member of Deccan Charges and also won the title with the side in the 2009 season. His last season in the Indian Premier League was with Kochi Tuskers Kerala in the 2011 edition.
Post Retirement
Laxman spent a lot of time at the National Cricket Academy after his retirement and also did a marvelous job with BCCI in finding young talents. Currently, he is the Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy.
