“The Match Winner”- These words truly suit Yuvraj Singh and his legacy in Indian cricket. When you think about Yuvraj Singh, you always remember his contribution to two crucial tournaments- the ICC T20 World Cup 2007 and the ICC ODI World Cup 2011. In both these tournaments, Yuvraj Singh was the player of the series.
Yuvraj Singh is a left-handed batsman and left-arm spinner and one of the best all-rounders to play to date for India. He is a middle-order batsman who was known for his big sixes. Notably, he is one of the players to smack 6 sixes in a single over. He is active in tournaments of retired players.
Family and Personal Life
Yuvraj Singh was born on December 12, 1981, in Chandigarh to Yograj Singh and Shabnam Singh. He grew up with his only brother Zoravar Singh and multiple cousins in a joint family. He married actress Hazel Keech in November 2016. The couple has two kids- a boy Orion and a girl named Aura.
Early and Domestic Career
It is a very popular story that Yuvraj Singh started his cricket career when his father Yograj Singh sent him to Navjot Singh Sidhu. However, the latter told him that Yuvraj cannot become a batsman ever.
Surprisingly, it turned out to be untrue later and Yuvraj Singh emerged as one of the best batters in Indian history. He played for the Punjab Team in his domestic career.
International Career
Yuvraj Singh made his international debut in October 2000 with an ODI and played for Team India till June 2017, with his last ODI game against West Indies. Hence, he had a 17-year-long career.
During his career, he played a total of 40 Tests, 304 ODIs, and 58 T20Is. He played his first Test against New Zealand in 2003 and his last match against England in 2012. He slammed 1900 runs in the format in 40 games and piled up 547 runs in the next.
In ODIs, he played 304 games and mustered 8701 runs at an average of 36+. With the ball, he picked 9 wickets in Tests, 111 wickets in ODIs, and 28 wickets in T20Is. The all-rounder also played 132 IPL games during his career from 2008 to 2019.
Franchise Career
Yuvraj Singh played for various IPL teams like Pune Warriors India, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Daredevils, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, and Mumbai Indians.
He also played in franchise T20 tournaments for retired players and was the captain of the India Legends team in the 2024 season. India also won the trophy in the season.
