ISL vs MUL: Match Preview, PSL 2022- Islamabad United vs Multan Sultans, Pakistan Super League 2022 Match 08
Islamabad United:
Islamabad United have made a dominating start to their PSL 2022 campaign. Shadab and Co. exhibited a stellar all-round performance in their first game against Peshawar Zalmi on Sunday.
Hasan Ali and Faheem Ashraf reduced Peshawar Zalmi to 35 for 4 inside the powerplay in the first innings. However, they fought back strongly and managed to post 168 runs in the first innings, thanks to an outstanding knock from Sherfane Rutherford.
Both Hasan Ali (2 for 34) and Faheem Ashraf (2 for 23) were the pick of the bowlers for Islamabad United. Despite, going for plenty of runs in his final over, Shadab Khan finished with figures of 1 for 28 runs in 4 overs.
The opening pair of Paul Sterling and Alex Hales made a mockery of that total. The duo wreaked havoc in the power play as they didn’t spare a single bowler who bowled to them. They added 78 runs in the first six overs, giving the side a dream start. Sterling brought up his half-century in just 18 deliveries.
He eventually got run out in the 10th over of the innings but Islamabad United had the match under their grasp already by then. Alex Hales remained unbeaten on 82 off 54 balls and got vital support from Rahmanullah Gurbaz (27 off 18).
The duo helped the team chase down the total in 15.5 overs. Islamabad United would be pretty pleased with their performance and one shouldn’t expect them to make any change in their next game.
Multan Sultans:
Multan Sultans too, are in brilliant form. The defending champions have got just the start that they would have wanted. At the time of writing, Multan Sultans are sitting at number one position on the points table with 2 wins in 2 matches.
The bowling unit failed to impress in the last game as Fakhar Zaman took them apart with some fierce power-hitting display. Multan Sultans conceded 206 runs in the first innings. Imran Tahir was the only bowler who looked a bit threatening. He finished with figures of 1 for 32 in 4 overs.
The likes of Imran Khan (0 for 54) and S Dahahi (1 for 44) had forgettable outings. Imran Khan has gone for plenty of runs in both games and he might get replaced in the next game.
Despite conceding such a huge total, Multan Sultans managed to chase it down in 19.4 overs. Shan Masood and M Rizwan stitched a brilliant 150-run partnership for the first wicket. Masood scored 83 runs in 50 deliveries, while M Rizwan amassed 69 runs in 42 balls.
However, once both the players got out, the scoring rate got affected and the equation eventually came down to 16 needed in the final over. Khushdil Shah then scored 18 runs in just 4 deliveries to help the team secure a brilliant win.
