Karachi Kings take on Peshawar Zalmi in the 11th match of the Pakistan Super League 2022 on Friday at National Stadium in Karachi. Karachi Kings are currently languishing at the bottom of the points table. They have lost all three games played in the tournament thus far. Nothing has worked from them this year.
Babar Azam and Co. suffered a 6-wicket win over Lahore Qalandars in their last game. The opening duo of Babar Azam and Sharjeel Khan made a great start as they put on 84 runs for the first wicket. Sharjeel Khan got out after scoring 60 runs in 39 balls, while Babar Azam amassed 41 runs in 33 balls. However, the other batsmen didn’t contribute a lot to the total.
Joe Clarke remained unbeaten on 24 off 18 balls but wickets kept falling at the other end. Despite that, Karachi managed to reach 170 runs in the first innings.
In reply, Lahore Qalandars chased down the score in 19.2 overs. Karachi did manage to pick wickets at regular intervals but Fakhar Zaman singlehandedly took the game away from them. For Karachi, M Nabi picked 1 for 27 in 4 overs, while Imad Wasim returned with figures of 1 for 28 in 4 overs. Nevertheless, they would be hopeful of scoring a bit more runs on the board in the next game.
On the other hand, Peshawar Zalmi, too, are coming into the contest on the back of a defeat at the hands of Lahore Qalandars. The Zalmi’s bowling unit had no answer to the destruction caused by Lahore Qalandars batters. Riding on impressive knocks from Fakhar Zaman, Shafique, and Hafeez, Lahore Qalandars put on a mammoth 199-run total in the first innings.
Skipper Wahab Riaz had a forgettable outing with the ball as he conceded 33 runs without a wicket to his name in 4 overs. Besides, the likes of Arish Khan (0 for 36 in 2 overs) and Usman Qadir (1 for 43) also went for plenty of runs.
In pursuit of the score, Peshawar Zalmi were restricted to 170 runs in 20 overs. Playing his first game this season, Kamran Akmal gave the team a strong start despite wickets falling at the other end. He scored 41 runs in 24 balls, a knock which was laced with 4 fours and 2 sixes.
Later, Haider Ali also found form with a valiant 34-ball 49. However, neither of them carried on to play a big knock for the team. The other batsmen made little contributions to the bat. On the Karachi pitch, it’s important the batsman must play a big knock if he gets a good start with the bat. Both teams will have that thing in mind as they head into the game on Friday.
