PSL 2022: Islamabad United Name Waqas Maqsood As Temporary Replacement For Reece Topley

Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Islamabad United have named Waqas Maqsood as a temporary replacement for England pacer Reece Topley for PSL 2022.

According to the PSL replacement protocols, a foreign player can be replaced with another overseas player. As such, Islamabad United are entitled to replace Topley with a foreign player.

The temporary replacement has been approved by the Event Technical Committee, which is headed by Zakir Khan (Director – International Cricket Operations), and includes Nadeem Khan (Director – High Performance) and Sameer Khosa.

Maqsood has just played one T20I match for the Pakistan national team in 2018 against New Zealand in Dubai. The 34-year-old was previously with Karachi Kings.

PSL 2022: Islamabad United to play against Peshawar Zalmi in their first match

Islamabad United start their PSL 7 campaign against Peshawar Zalmi on Sunday at the National Stadium in Karachi. Zalmi won their first match against Quetta Gladiators by five wickets as stand-in captain Shoaib Malik (48*) and Hussain Talat (52) played with a heavyweight to help the side chase the big target of 192.

Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan will lead the Islamabad United team which has the services of Alex Hales, Paul Stirling, Marchant de Lange and Zahir Khan in the ranks of their overseas players.

Islamabad United topped the points table of PSL 2021 with 16 points but lost in the playoffs to eventual champions Multan Sultans and Peshwar Zalmi. They are champions of 2016 and 2018.
