The PSL 2022 kickstarts with defending champions Multan Sultans taking on Karachi Kings in Karachi in the season opener. The second match will be played between Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi in Karachi as well on January 28, Friday While Quetta finished last in PSL 2021, Peshawar played the finals. 

The PSL 2022 is the seventh season of Pakistan’s premier domestic T20 tournament. It will be played a month-long tournament starting from January 27 with the final to be played in February 27 in Lahore. 

 A total of 34 matches will be played this season, across two venues in Pakistan, National Stadium, Karachi, and Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Each team will face the other team twice in the league stages, and the top 4 teams at the end of group stages will proceed to the playoffs. No new team has been added to this league which also means that it will continue to be a six-team event.

The previous season was contrasting for both teams. Quetta Gladiators finished last in the table after an overwhelming season with eight defeats in 10 games. This time around, they have a better squad as they have roped in several good overseas players. James Vince, James Faulkner and Jason Roy are good overseas options. On paper, they are a better side than Peshawar led by Wahab Riaz. They have the likes of Liam Livingstone and Shoaib Malik in their team. 

Quetta, who will be led by Sarfaraz Ahmed has been rocked early as Shahid Afridi has tested positive and will be staying in isolation as per the PCB protocols. The franchise confirmed that the 41-year-old will be allowed to join the squad once he completes his quarantine and returns a negative test result. The former Pakistan skipper has also confirmed that it will be his last season.
