Rilee Rossouw to lead Quetta Gladiators in PSL 2024 after franchise drops Sarfaraz Ahmed as captain

Quetta Gladiators have named Rilee Rossouw as their new skipper in the Pakistan Super League 2024 (PSL 2024). Rilee Rossouw has replaced Sarfaraz Ahmed as the skipper. PSL 2024 commences on Saturday, February 17.

A total of 6 teams are part of Pakistan Super League 2024. Lahore Qalandars, Islamabad United, Peshawar Zalmi, Quetta Gladiators, Multan Sultans, and Karachi Kings are the six teams who will wrestle for the title in PSL 2024.

Quetta Gladiators will play their opening match of PSL 2024 on Sunday, February 18. They will clash with Peshawar Zalmi at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. PSL 2024 will conclude with the final on March 18 at National Stadium in Karachi.

Rilee Rossouw named new skipper of Quetta Gladiators for PSL 2024

Just a few days ahead of PSL 2024, Quetta Gladiators have named Rilee Rossouw as the new skipper of the franchise. He replaces Sarfaraz Ahmed, who has led the team since the inception of the tournament.

Rilee Rossouw is one of the batting giants in the tournament. Since the 2017 season, the South Africa stalwart has slammed 1867 runs in 74 games averaging 34.57. At a stunning strike rate of 146+, Rossouw has also shattered 2 centuries and 10 half-centuries in the league over the years.

He is also the 6th highest run-getter in PSL history. Last season, Rilee Rossouw finished as the third-highest run-getter in the tournament. The left-handed batter smashed 453 runs across 11 games at an amazing average of 45.30.

He held a powerful strike rate of 171+, smacking 1 century and 3 half-centuries in the season. He was part of the Multan Sultans franchise last year and was picked by Quetta Gladiators during the PSL 2024 draft.

Notably, Rilee Rossouw has not led any team in the franchise T20 league in the past. However, he owns a fabulous record in T20Is. In 29 matches for South Africa, he has mustered 767 runs at an average of 34.69 and a strike rate of 159+. He has also shammed 2 tons and 3 fifties in his T20I career.

Sarfaraz Ahmed led Quetta Gladiators for 8 seasons

Sarfaraz Ahmed was the skipper of Quetta Gladiators for the last eight seasons. He led the team to the title in the debut edition in the 2016 and 2019 seasons. However, during the last four seasons, Quetta Gladiators failed to reach the finals.

Last season, Quetta Gladiators gave a miserable show in Pakistan Super League 2023. They finished in the last 6th spot in the points table. Out of 10 matches, they won 3 games and lost 7. With 6 points, they were the worst performers.

In the 2022 season too, Quetta Gladiators failed to come up with a better show. They finished in the 5th spot in the points table after winning 4 games and losing 6 out of 10. They finished in the second-last 5th spot in the points table.
