Babar Azam, on Monday (March 11), starred with the bat as Peshawar Zalmi beat Karachi Kings by two runs in a thrilling encounter to guarantee a top-two finish in the league stage of the ongoing Pakistan Super League 2024 (PSL 2024).

In a game where only three other batters could reach the 30-run mark and no other batter could hit a single six, Babar Azam showed his class by scoring a fine fifty on a tough pitch. He scored 51 runs off 46 balls with the help of five fours and one six. Rovman Powell (30) was the only other Zalmi batter who crossed the 20-run mark with the bat.

And while Babar Azam scored a fighting fifty, he was not at all happy when his knock came to an end in the 14th over. The Zalmi skipper knew that batting on the pitch was tough and wanted to stay till the end to guide his team to a big total. However, he was run out for 51 and his reaction said it all. The former Pakistan captain was absolutely furious with the run-out and was seen reacting in an animated manner.

Watch:

The Zalmi finished their innings on 147 for 6 in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, Karachi Kings ended their innings on 145 for 5. With 17 runs needed off the final over bowled by Aamer Jamal, Irfan Khan (39*) and Anwar Ali (14) could only collect 14 runs.

Babar Azam on his batting:

Speaking after the game, Babar Azam talked about his batting. The Zalmi skipper said that he tries to improve every day and bats according to the team’s needs. He also admitted that batting on the pitch was not easy, especially against the spinners.

“We were not expecting it would be so soft and it would turn so much. We were looking for 150-160. Not easy to play spinners here. Never expected the wicket to turn so much. Generally, the wicket here is very good. As a player, you have some goals. You want to play well and improve as much as you can. I try to improve every day. My focus is on team’s needs.

“Credit to the boys. The bowling was outstanding. Ayub bowled very well. He created the impact and put pressure on Karachi batters. The youngsters are doing well. We will look not to repeat our mistakes in the powerplay,” said Babar.
