Watch: Imad Wasim explosively declares Babar Azam superior to Virat Kohli in sensational statement

Former Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim chose his ex-captain and fellow countryman Babar Azam over Indian batting stalwart Virat Kohli in terms of a better ODI and Test batsman. Wasim feels that Babar is currently the leading One-day batter in the world at the moment and that he is easily among the top 5 batters in the longest format.

The only format in which Imad Wasim kept Virat Kohli above Babar Azam was the shortest format of the game where the former is the all-time top scorer in the international circuit. Wasim made this claim while speaking to a local Pakistani journalist virtually. His remarks about Babar and Kohli have received plenty of backlash from fans below that video post on X (formerly Twitter).

The Journalist named Qadir Khawaja very simply asked, “Whom do you like the most, Virat or Babar Azam?” In response, Imad Wasim said that it depends before stating that according to him Babar Azam is the best ODI player at the moment and a top 5 in Test cricket. He then claimed Virat Kohli is better than his countryman in the shortest format but the fact is, Kohli is better than Babar across formats be it in terms of stats or in terms of effectiveness during big matches.

While making those comments, Imad Wasim’s facial expression seemed as if he was a bit scared and didn’t want to cause any type of controversy. In fact, when he said that Virat is a better T20I player, he followed that up by saying that he doesn’t want to cause any argument or any type of war with his comments.

“It depends. Babar Azam, according to me, is the best player of One-day cricket to be honest at the moment and even in Test cricket you can say that he is among the top 5 batters. In T20s, Virat seems better to me than Babar and there is not fight or any type war of words in it,” Imad Wasim told Qadir Khawaja. 

This particular comparison is nothing new anymore as fans of Babar and Virat are often found having a war on social media as to whose cover drive is better, whose captaincy is better, and who is a better player overall. While Virat Kohli is way clear and above Babar Azam, it is at times hard to understand what the comparisons are all about.

Meanwhile, Imad Wasim, who retired from international cricket last year, had a man-of-the-match outing against Quetta Gladiators last night in Eliminator 1 of PSL 9. While he remained quiet with the bat, getting run out for just 3 runs he produced a splendid performance with the ball in hand, registering figures of 3/12 from his quota of 4 overs.

Islamabad United went on to win the contest by 39 runs and are just a win away from entering the final where Multan Sultans are awaiting their opponents.
