Young fast bowler Naseem Shah showcased his bowling prowess during the match between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024. Naseem Shah shattered Sherfane Rutherford’s stumps with an unplayable delivery.

Islamabad United suffered a three-wicket loss in the eighth match of the PSL 2024 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Thursday, February 22. The United suffered their second consecutive loss in the tournament, while the Gladiators remained unbeaten after three matches.

Naseem Shah took two wickets while defending a low total during the match. The right-arm pacer dismissed Saud Shakeel in just his second over to provide an early breakthrough for his team. Saud scored just two runs off six deliveries before being dismissed.

After conceding 26 runs in his initial three overs, Naseem returned to bowl his final over in the 16th, with the Quetta Gladiators needing 31 more runs for victory. At that stage, the Gladiators were 108-4, aiming to secure their third consecutive win in the tournament.

Naseem Shah conceded eight runs off the first five deliveries in his final over. On the final ball, the young fast bowler unleashed an unplayable delivery from around the wicket, sending Sherfane Rutherford’s off stump flying. Shah roared in celebration after taking the wicket.

The Pakistan Super League official social media X (formerly known as Twitter) shared the clip with the caption, ‘𝐔 𝐍 𝐏 𝐋 𝐀 𝐘 𝐀 𝐁 𝐋 𝐄, We all have the same reaction as Azam Khan to that beauty!

Naseem concluded his spell with bowling figures of 2-34 after dismissing Rutherford, who had scored 29 runs from 23 balls. The Quetta Gladiators lost two more wickets in successive overs, leaving them seven down with 12 runs needed for victory.  Mohammad Amir smashed two boundaries to secure the victory for his team.

Quetta have reclaimed the second position in the standings following their third successive win. Despite their recent loss, Islamabad United maintained their third place in the table, having won one out of three matches and holding a positive Net Run Rate of +0.028.

Rilee Rossouw Receives Player of the Match Award

The Quetta Gladiators won the toss and elected to bowl. Openers Alex Hales and Colin Munro provided a strong start, adding 29 runs in three overs. Agha Salman scored 33 runs,  supported by Jordan Cox and Faheem Ashraf, setting a competitive total of 138 runs.

The Gladiators’ Abrar Ahmed and Mohammad Wasim Jr. took three wickets each, while Akeal Hosein and Mohammad Hasnain claimed two and one wickets, respectively.

Jason Roy played a quick-fire knock of 37 runs from 18 balls in the run chase. However, they lost three wickets in consecutive overs, leaving them at 54/4 in 7.1 overs. Rilee Russouw (34) Sherfane Rutherford and Mohammad Amir (11) contributed crucial runs.

Islamabad’s Shadab Khan and Naseem Shah claimed two wickets each, with Rumman Raees and Hunain Shah taking one wicket each.
