All-rounder Rovman Powell made a stunning boundary save with his fielding for Peshawar Zalmi during the 12th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 season. Rovman Powell also contributed with the bat in Peshawar Zalmi’s clash against Lahore Qalandars.

The Babar Azam-led Peshawar team registered an 8-run victory at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Sunday, February 25. The Peshawar team successfully defended 211 runs in a nail-biting encounter. Young opening batter Saim Ayub was named the Player of the Match.

In the 12th over of the Lahore Qalandars’ innings, Rovman Powell made a superb save near the boundary rope. Shai Hope’s shot seemed destined for a boundary, but Powell’s remarkable fielding prevented it. Powell managed to save four runs with his exceptional effort.

Shai Hope attempted to deposit the ball over long-on but failed to middle it. Powell timed his jump to perfection, caught the ball, and threw it back into the field before falling outside the fence. Powell’s efforts received praise from the cricketing community.

Peshawar Zalmi openers Saim Ayub and Babar Azam forged a 136-run partnership after being asked to bat first. However, Shaheen Afridi provided the breakthrough for his team in the 15th over. Afridi dismissed Babar Azam, who scored 48 runs off 36 deliveries.

Despite losing his partner, Ayub maintained his aggressive batting against the opposition bowlers. Ayub scored 88 runs, hitting eight fours and four sixes, before being dismissed by Afridi. Following Ayub’s exit, Rovman Powell stepped up to the challenge.

Powell propelled Peshawar Zalmi beyond the 200-run milestone, smashing 46 runs off 20 deliveries, including five boundaries and two sixes. Mohammad Haris contributed 12 runs off 5 balls, while Paul Walker added two runs, helping Zalmi post a total of 211/4.

During the run chase, Rassie van der Dussen showcased a remarkable innings, scoring an unbeaten 104 runs off 52 balls, including seven fours and six sixes. He reached his century in just 50 balls with a six over midwicket off Luke Wood’s bowling in the 19th over.

Despite Rassie van der Dussen’s outstanding display, Lahore Qalandars narrowly missed the target. Shai Hope contributed 29 runs, and Ahsan Hafeez added 20. Zalmi’s Naveen-ul-Haq conceded 50 runs, but picked up two crucial wickets while defending the target.

Peshawar Zalmi climbed to fourth place with four points, winning two matches and losing two, with an NRR of -0.456. Meanwhile, Lahore Qalandars remain at the bottom of the table with five consecutive losses, still searching for their first win in the tournament.
