Watch: Shaheen Afridi stuns Mohammad Rizwan with a peach in PSL 2024

Shaheen Afridi oozed his class with the new ball yet again in the ongoing game of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 between Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans. The match between the two teams is taking place at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. 

Lahore Qalandars were put into bowl first and skipper Shaheen Afridi made sure that they got the team off the flier. He removed Mohammad Rizwan with the peach and the keeper-batter had no clue to the snorter by the left-arm pacer. 

Shaheen Afridi bowled a delivery on a length that was around off and swung back in at pace. The ball sneaked between the bat-pad gap and took an inside edge to peg back the leg stump. The pacer was elated with the dismissal as he took off as he enjoyed the wicket.

With the kind of form Mohammad Rizwan has been in the ongoing PSL, it needed something special to get him out. The delivery was similar to KL Rahul from the T20 World Cup in 2021 in that one. The keeper-batter perished for a five-ball duck. 

Shaheen Afridi has been undergoing a lean patch in the T20s and has come under a lot of scanners due to his poor performances. However, the wicket of Mohammad Rizwan with his special delivery might have boosted his confidence.

Shaheen Afridi would now be hoping to cash on the start that he has got and would want to get back to his full flow. The fast bowler bowled impeccable lines and lengths with the new ball in the ongoing game and made sure that his side handed some early blow to the opposition. 

Shaheen Afridi ever since becoming the Pakistan captain hasn’t been able to get going. He has failed both as a leader as well as a bowler. With him slowly getting back into his rhythm, the pacer would be hoping to silence his critics. 

Shaheen Afridi’s leadership under scanner 

Recently reports in Pakistan media suggested that Shaheen Afridi’s spot as a captain of the team is under serious scanner. Newly appointed PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi wants Mohammad Rizwan to lead the Pakistan team in the white-ball cricket. Afridi’s first assignment as captain wasn’t fruitful Pakistan suffered a 4-1 loss against New Zealand. 

Talking about the same, a media source said: “Shaheen’s performance as captain in the Pakistan Super League is under scrutiny no doubt about that. Babar privately feels betrayed by Shaheen as he and the fast bowler, Rizwan, Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf have always been very close in the team.” 

It remains to be seen what will be the future of Shaheen Afridi as the T20I captain. The fast bowler is also not having a great time in the ongoing PSL as well. He hasn’t won a single game and would be hoping to turn things around. The ongoing game will be a great opportunity for him to turn things around and get back to his best for his team.
