The Puducherry cricket team represents the union territory of Puducherry in Indian domestic cricket tournaments. The team is governed by the Cricket Association of Puducherry and plays its home games at the Cricket Association Puducherry Siechem Ground, Puducherry.
Before the start of the domestic season in 2018, the BCCI had announced the introduction of nine new teams in the domestic competitions and Puducherry were one of them.
Puducherry's journey in the domestic circuit began in September 2018 with the Vijay Hazare Trophy. In its first game, the Puducherry cricket team thrashed Manipur by eight wickets. In their debut Vijay Hazare Trophy season, Puducherry finished in the third place in the Plate Group with five wins and two defeats.
Paras Dogra was the highest run-scorer for the team while Fabid Ahmed was the leading wicket-taker. Dogra scored 257 runs and Ahmed picked up 11 wickets.
In November 2018, Puducherry made their debut in the Ranji Trophy with a game against Meghalaya. In the very first game of the team, Dogra scored a century and the rain-affected match ended in a draw. Puducherry went on to win four of their eight games in the Ranji Trophy and finished third in the points table.
Their performance in the debut Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was not impressive. The newcomers won just one of their seven games and finished seventh in Group E.
