Axar Patel, who was named into the India squad after Ravindra Jadeja’s injury has delivered the goods in clinical moments. In the process, the dynamic all-rounder was awarded the Player of the Series for his contributions during the recently concluded India vs Australia series.

Following the series win, the 28-year-old said he was happy after being able to help India beat the Aussies 2-1 in the three-match T20I series. Axar finished as the leading wicket-taker, picking up eight wickets from three matches at an economy rate of 6.30 and conceding only 63 runs in 10 overs.

Axar’s best figures of 3/17 in the series, however, came in a losing cause when India lost to Australia in the opening fixture at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. On Sunday, however, Axar’s three-wicket haul guided the Men in Blue through to a six-wicket victory at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Axar was quoted as saying to Suryakumar Yadav in a video that was uploaded on the official Twitter handle of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), “It’s a great feeling when you perform well for the team and help your team win a series. You can’t express your emotions, you can only feel them and I am feeling them right now.”

During the decisive series decider on Sunday, Axar got the all-important wickets of opposition skipper Aaron Finch, Josh Inglis and Matthew Wade, who averages nearly 60 against India in T20Is. He also ran Glenn Maxwell out with a sharp throw from a short fine leg.
