Aakash Chopra has identified Yuzvendra Chahal’s difficulty to start picking up wickets, in addition to becoming costly, as one of Team India’s worries walking into the third T20I against South Africa.
Chahal has only taken one wicket in two T20Is against the Proteas. In the 6.1 overs he has bowled in the series so far, the shrewd leg-spinner has also conceded 75 runs.
Aakash Chopra expressed some of Team India’s problem areas in the series so far in a video posted to his YouTube channel. He had this to say about Chahal:
“The most worrying sign is that India is failing to take enough wickets in the middle overs. You should take a glance at Yuzvendra Chahal, our seasoned customer. We all agreed that his exclusion from the World Cup was a massive disservice. However, he has given up a lot of runs in this series.”
Aakash Chopra also criticized Team India’s fielding, saying:
“Catches win games. You will be amazed to realize that one in every four catches is lost. You cannot win the game if you drop catches.”
‘Shreyas Iyer is struggling against the fast Bowlers’: Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra mentioned Shreyas Iyer’s difficulties against the Proteas pacers as yet another cause of trouble for Team India. He explained:
“Shreyas Iyer is having difficulty keeping up with the speed; this is yet another problem that needs to be tackled. It is the elephant in the room that the guy is scoring runs, so do not bring it up, but the reality is that if you want to keep moving forward, you can’t simply hit against spin; you will have to hit against pace as well.”
After losing two consecutive games, India will play South Africa in the series’ third match on June 14 at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
