South African pacer Kagiso Rabada reached the landmark of 50 wickets in T20 internationals during the second T20I against India being played at Cuttack stadium on June 12, 2022. The 27-year-old became only the 4th bowler from South Africa to reach this landmark.
Coming to the match, South Africa won the toss and was elected to field first. South Africa had to make two forced changes, as Quinton de Kock, their wicketkeeper and opener hurt his hand and was missing from the lineup. This meant Heinrich Klassen came in as a keeper, while Reeza Hendricks replaced Tristan Stubbs and will open the innings. The Men in Blue went in unchanged.
At the time of writing this piece, India was 90/4 in the 13th over with Hardik Pandya getting out for 9 runs against Wayne Parnell. Ishan Kishan made 34 before falling to Anrich Nortje and captain Rishabh Pant was dismissed by Keshav Maharaj for 5 runs.
Kagiso Rabada Becomes The 4th Bowler From South Africa To Reach 50 Wickets Milestone
Rabada dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad of India on the fifth ball of the first over of the Indian innings in the second T20I. Rabada bowled a wide loose delivery and Ruturaj Gaikwad, having been set up by the Proteas pacer with three short balls in a row, saw an opportunity to cut loose.
But in his jest to hit a boundary, Gaikwad played the ball uppishly and only managed to find Keshav Maharaj at point, who grasped an easy catch low to the ground, handing India their first wicket.
With this wicket, Rabada became the 4th South African bowler to 50 T20I wickets, which came in his 42nd match. Apart from Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi has picked 57 wickets in 48 T20Is, Imran Tahir has 61 wickets in 35 T20Is and the most wickets by a South African in T20Is are 64 in 47 matches, by Dale Steyn.
