Former India wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel showered praise on the South Africa National Cricket Team batter, Heinrich Klaasen, for his sensational Player of the Match performance in the second T20I of the five-match T20I series against the India National Cricket Team at the Barabati Stadium, Cuttack on Sunday, June 12.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar broke the back of the Proteas batting unit in the second T20I as he dismissed Reeza Hendricks, Dwaine Pretorius, and Rassie van der Dussen in the powerplay.

Heinrich Klaasen, who came out to bat when South Africa were at 29/3, added 64 runs with his skipper Temba Bavuma. He scored 81 runs off 46 balls, including 7 fours and 5 sixes, before getting dismissed by Harshal Patel in the 17th over.

Speaking on Cricbuzz, Parthiv lauded Klaasen for his batting against spinners and for pacing his innings very well. He said:

“The way he played and some of the shots he played, like coming on the backfoot and scoring over cover were really great. He played spinners really well. Also, the way he paced his innings. At first, it looked like he was being trapped by the spinners but the wicket was such. Once he was settled, his strike rate increased and he never looked back.”

The praise has to go to the strike rotation by Klassen – Parthiv Patel

Former India wicketkeeper-batsman further lauded the Proteas batter for his strike rotation and said:

“Apart from the fours and sixes, the praise has to go to the strike rotation by Klassen. You cannot build an innings with just boundaries. He showed the entire template of batting in this one inning.”

During the same interaction, Ashish Nehra said that the game was in South Africa’s favour by the time Temba Bavuma got out and it was on Yuzvendra Chahal to help India make a comeback, which he failed to do. He said:

“After Bavuma got out, the only way India could have bounced back in the game was if Chahal took a couple more wickets including the one of Miller or Klaasen. By the time Bavuma got out, the match was far away from India’s grasp.”
