Young India opener Prithvi Shaw’s snub for the ODI series against South Africa has stirred quite a debate. The dynamic right-hander Shaw, who captained India to an Under-19 World Cup win in 2018 was expected to find a place in the second-string India side, with most key players travelling to Australia for the T20 World Cup.
Prithvi Shaw has, of late, scored mountains of runs, that too at an unbelievable strike rate in domestic cricket.
Aakash Chopra feels Prithvi Shaw is a ‘top player’ and should have featured in the squad
Prior to the first ODI between India and South Africa on Thursday in Lucknow, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra reacted to Shaw’s omission by saying that he should have been in the squad.
Rookies like Rajat Patidar and Rahul Tripathi were roped in as Shaw’s exclusion from the squad came as a shock for the fans and experts. The 22-year-old cricketer reacted to his snub by sharing a cryptic post from his Instagram account.
The former cricketer turned commentator said on his YouTube channel, “There is no Prithvi Shaw for this series. When the squad was announced, his name should have been there, right? He is a top player. I think he should have been selected.”
Aakash Chopra bats for Prithvi Shaw’s inclusion in the next T20 World Cup
Predicting Shaw to be a part of the Indian team in the next T20 World Cup squad, Chopra said, “I understand that Shaw is an opener and there are too many of them in the squad at the moment, but the amount of runs Shaw has scored, there has to be a time when he is called up. I frankly see him playing in the next T20 World Cup.”
“Management should start inducting him and utilising him. His numbers are fantastic in domestic cricket. He is a destructive player, so he should have been part of this squad,” Chopra added.
