India will play South Africa in the second ODI of the three-match series at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi, on Sunday, October 09. Shikhar Dhawan’s side will look to bounce back against the Proteas and stay alive in the series by winning the match against the Proteas after losing the first ODI by nine runs.

Deepak Chahar has been ruled out for the rest of the series against South Africa. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed that pacer Chahar had back stiffness in his back after the third and final T20I match against the Proteas. All-rounder Washington Sundar replaced the injured pacer for the last two ODIs against Temba Bavuma’s team.

Shahbaz Ahmed Can Replace Ruturaj Gaikwad Or Ishan Kishan – Wasim Jaffer

Former Indian cricket team opener Wasim Jaffer has backed Shahbaz Ahmed to make his ODI debut in the second ODI against South Africa on Sunday. Jaffer feels that the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) all-rounder can replace either Ruturaj Gaikwad or Ishan Kishan in India’s playing XI. Shahbaz impressed in the last IPL season, scoring 219 runs and taking four wickets in 16 matches.

“Shahbaz Ahmed should play as he would be helpful in the bowling department and strengthen the batting unit. You cannot go ahead with only five bowling options in 50-over cricket. You can replace him with Ruturaj Gaikwad or Ishan Kishan,” Jaffer said.

David Miller Is Quality Player – David Miller

Ahead of the second ODI, the former India batsman heaped praise on South Africa middle-order batsman David Miller. Miller scored an unbeaten 75 off 63 balls in the first one-day international against India in Lucknow on Wednesday, September 28.

“There is no doubt that he [David Miller] is a quality player. He was excellent in the IPL and continued his good form. India would definitely want to take his wicket early on. If India wants to win, they need to take the early wickets of Miller, Quinton de Kock and Heinrich Klassen,” Jaffer added.
