IND vs SA: That Flat Six Over Long Off Was Simply Phenomenal - Sunil Gavaskar Picks 2 Big Positives For India Despite Loss

Sunil Gavaskar, the former India captain, saw two positive signs despite the Men in Blue’s heavy seven-wicket defeat.
Despite establishing a spectacular target of 212 runs, India’s 12th 200-plus total in a T20I inning, the bowling attack was unable to defend the total, as South Africa hunted down the total with five balls remaining thanks to an unbeaten 131-run stand between David Miller and Rassie van der Dussen off just 63 balls.

Gavaskar praised Ishan’s commitment to the batting in an interview with Star Sports after the match.

“He didn’t get off to a great start, there had been a lot of the outside edge and he was going down the wrong line, but he stayed with it. And it can be challenging to get the ball off the middle of the bat when the ball is firm. But he calmed down and went through those 70 or so runs in record speed,” Sunil Gavaskar remarked.
‘Hardik Pandya bowling was a good sign’: Sunil Gavaskar
Hardik’s comeback as an all-rounder was also another significant positive for Sunil Gavaskar. Hardik made an amazing 31 off 12 deliveries while batting at No. 5, and he also delivered an over for 18 runs.
“Hardik Pandya is also down the pecking order, slamming the ball about. In terms of the Indian team, these really are two really important choices. It was also encouraging to see Hardik bowl.
“Yes, he scored a lot of runs in his one over, but you can’t possibly expect him to come in and get anything right in his first over in international cricket after such a long time.”

“There’s no reason to doubt that he can maintain this condition. Because he’s always able to get it done for India while they are batting second. And the shot he made, that flat-six over far off that was phenomenal,” Sunil Gavaskar remarked.
On Sunday, June 12, India and South Africa will play the second T20I of their five-match series. The game is set to take place at Cuttack’s Barabati Stadium.
