Yuzvendra Chahal’s record in the ongoing series against South Africa has become a source of worry for India since he has only claimed one wicket while conceding 75 runs in 6.1 overs.

Wasim Jaffer, a former India opening batsman, spoke out about Chahal’s underwhelming results for India despite great showings in the IPL.

The stats suggest that Chahal’s performance dropped in the second half of the season. Lately, the leggie has gone runs at a rate of 9.46. Chahal has given up 172 runs in 18.1 overs while taking just two wickets in 3 playoff matches and two games in the ongoing series against South Africa.

Chahal’s economy has indeed gotten better in the last two matches, as the right-arm spin bowler has gone for 75 runs in 6.1 overs bowled in the series thus far. Chahal may have gone on a wicket-taking binge in the IPL, but his performance at the national level has been disappointing.

Wasim Jaffer highlighted an area of concern for Chahal:

Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, Wasim Jaffer admitted that his figures, particularly against right-handers, have been below-par for a leggie and that he needs to improve.

“The kind of consequences Yuzi has in the IPL, he hasn’t been converting into international matches for a long time. That’s why Rahul Chahar was chosen over him in the last T20 World Cup.”

Wasim Jaffer also expressed concerns for Chahal. “His figures, particularly against right-handers, don’t explain whatever a leg spinner ought to have.” “He bowls well to left-handers, and that’s something he needs to improve on,” Jaffer added.

Yuzvendra Chahal, Team India’s leg-spinner, is heading off his most successful IPL stint with the Rajasthan Royals (RR), where he took 27 wickets and won the purple cap.

After losing two consecutive games, India will play South Africa in the series’ third match on June 14 at the Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
