IND vs SA: They Don't Have Wicket-taking Bowlers – Sunil Gavaskar Highlights India's “Major Problem” After 2nd T20I In Cuttack

Legendary India batter Sunil Gavaskar highlighted India’s “major problem” and said that they don’t have wicket-taking bowlers in the squad for the home T20I series against South Africa.
On Sunday, Rishabh Pant-led India faced their second consecutive defeat of the five-match T20I series against Temba Bavuma-led South Africa at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack and now South Africa have a 2-0 lead in the series.

Also, India’s defeat against South Africa in Cuttack was their 7th consecutive defeat against the Proteas team across formats as India had lost two Tests and three ODIs on South Africa tour, earlier this year, and now they have lost two consecutive T20Is.
Meanwhile, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar was disappointed with the bowling performance of India in the second T20I. Speaking after the match he said that Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the only bowler in the current Indian squad, who is a wicket-taker.
“The major problem is the fact that they don’t have wicket-taking bowlers in this squad apart from Bhuvneshwar Kumar,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports after the match.
You take wickets and then you get the opposition under pressure – Sunil Gavaskar
Gavaskar further said that a team take wickets to put pressure on the opposition and India lack wicket-takers.
“So, you take wickets and then you get the opposition under pressure. So, in both the matches, did anybody look like getting a wicket apart from Bhuvneshwar Kumar? He was getting the ball to move. That is the issue which is the reason why a total of 211 was something that they could not defend,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports after the match.
Talking about the second T20I between India and South Africa, losing the toss and batting first, India were able to post 148/6 on the board with the help of Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer and Dinesh Karthik’s good knocks.
While defending the target, Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Reeza Hendricks, Dwaine Pretorius and Rassie van der Dussen for low scores inside powerplay overs. Bhuvneshwar finished the match with 4 wickets in his bag and he gave away just 13 runs in his 4-over quota.
However, no bowler was able to support Bhuvneshwar and Proteas batter Heinrich Klaasen played a sensational knock of 81 runs off 46 balls, including 7 four and 5 sixes, to help South Africa win the match.
