Virat Kohli is likely to produce a record-breaking performance in the three-match T20I series against South Africa. The Proteas will play India in the series opener on Wednesday, captained by Rohit Sharma.

The Rohit Sharma-led Team India will host South Africa for a three-match T20I series as part of their preparations for the upcoming ICC World T20.

The Virat Kohli-starrer Team India is heading to the three-match series after defeating Australia 2-1 in their last white-ball assignment. Former Indian captain Kohli delivered a magnificent knock to help India overcome the 2021 World Cup winners in the series finale on Sunday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Kohli, who has been on a roll in the run-up to the T20 World Cup 2022, would be ready to lead the batting assault for the Rohit-led side in the South Africa series. In the shortest format of the game, Kohli’s colleague and Indian skipper Rohit is the leading run-scorer for India versus the Proteas. The seasoned Indian opener has 362 runs in 13 matches versus South Africa.

Virat Kohli holds the record of scoring most half-centuries in the shortest format:

Kohli owns the record for most half-centuries scored in the game’s shortest format. In his sparkling career for the 2007 world champions, the former Indian captain struck 33 fifties. The former Indian captain had two half-centuries against the Proteas. If Kohli scores a fifty in the upcoming series, he will have smashed the most half-centuries against South Africa in T20Is.

Virat Kohli is the second-highest run-scorer in T20I cricket history:

Kohli recently become India’s second-highest scorer in international cricket. The former Indian captain is the all-time leading scorer in T20 cricket. In the shortest format, the 33-year-old has amassed 10,978 runs. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) legend needs only a 22-run knock to become the first Indian batsman to reach 11,000 runs in T20 cricket.

Kohli is also the second-highest run-scorer in T20I history. The former Indian captain only needs 34 runs in the first T20I against South Africa to overtake Rohit and become the highest run-scorer in T20I cricket.
