The 1st ODI match of the Series was a rain-affected one. India had won the toss at Lucknow and opted to field first due to the overcast conditions. Due to the rain, the match was reduced to 40 overs per side. India had handed ODI Caps to Ravi Bishnoi & Ruturaj Gaikwad as the senior members of the team have left for ICC T20 World Cup 2022.
South Africa once again continued to struggle as the openers were not able to cope with the swing. Skipper Temba Bavuma took a surprise decision by batting at the No. 3 position and made Janneman Malan & Quinton de Kock open the innings.
Kuldeep Yadav Thrashes Aiden Markram Stumps
At the end of 15 overs, South Africa was dealt with a huge blow as Shardul Thakur had bowled Temba Bavuma with a terrific in-swinging delivery. The score at that point of time was 70-2.Aiden Markram had come into bat and as we have seen that he can make his innings count. While bowling the 16th over, Kuldeep Yadav made sure that the batter is getting frustrated. Markram was confused about whether the ball is coming in or out and then on the 5th delivery Kuldeep got a sharp turn and cleaned up his stumps and bowled a maiden wicket over.
South Africa in Deep Trouble
The batters should make sure that they are at least posting 200 runs on the board to give their bowlers a chance. All the hopes would be on Quinton de Kock to get a big century as the rest of the batters won’t be able to thrive on a spicy wicket.
Shikhar Dhawan should make sure that South African batters are not forming partnerships and sticking to the crease. We have seen in the past how Indian bowlers get hammered at the back end of the innings. Any partnership of 50-70 runs would mean that India is chasing a competitive total which won’t be easy in testing conditions.
